The beginnings of the shipping location at Haren (Ems) started during the 15th century. To this time, one used the favorable location at the river Ems and started a new acquisition source with river shipping. Simple freight boats (Emspuenten) under the ownership of shippers from Haren (Ems) delivered goods to the farmers, workmen and dealers in this area. They also established a link between the North Sea coast and the central part of Germany.
It happened in the course of history, that coastal shipping and the worldwide shipping has continuously been growing next to the traditional river shipping in Haren (Ems). Due to this extraordinary depelopment, the small city of Haren (Ems) has become the third largest shipowner location of Germany.
The family Sibum looks back at a long tradition within the shipping and shipbuilding history of Haren (Ems). The reproductions of the classic "Emspuente" and SS "Helene" at the shipping museum in Haren (Ems) are representing a part of the family tradition. The original vessels were build at the shipyard of the family Sibum at this time.
In order to search for new requests, the family Sibum performed the handover from the ship building to the shipowning and shipmanaging business since the year 1953. With the foundation of a shipping company, the brothers Stefan and Herman Sibum set a directive step for the future economic success of the family Sibum.
